Raiders of the Lost Con
As you hopefully know by now, sadly the Australian Discworld convention has been postponed until April next year. The theme remains Ankh-Morpork - Citie of One Thousand Surprises1!
Because April next year is such a long time away2, we wanted to do something fun to celebrate our lost convention. Thanks to the magic of the Omniscope, this will be a virtual event running on Saturday 3rd July 2021 - named The Lost Con3.
The theme will be catching up and having fun, because it has been such a long time since we last saw each other. We have sent our mascots, Keith and Roderick4, on a quest to find some exciting events, genial guests and astounding activities for the day.
More details will be posted on our website soon.
A Discworld Convention is always better for having lots of people buzzing around enthusiastically discussing Sir Terry Pratchett, Discworld, interesting times or what they did on their holidays!
So we want to get the word out to all Discworld fans, and anything that you can do to help would be appreciated.
Our design team have designed a rather stylish poster, capturing the atmosphere of the mean streets of Ankh-Morpork, and featuring our mascots Keith and Roderick4.
If you know of a noticeboard where a stylish poster might catch a fan's eye, then please download and print a copy of our poster. Maybe there's a notice board at work, university, your local library or a friendly bookshop.
The files are in PDF format, and in A3 and A4 sizes. You can download them from here.
We also have two designs of postcards. Maybe you have seen them already (and that's why you are reading this). Perhaps you have somewhere to display them or you are happy (and willing) to hand them out at a suitable event - Pop Con, Science Fiction & Fantasy event, local book club etc.
If you can distribute them then please contact us and we will post some to you. Let us know how many and where to post them.
Are you missing the company of other Discworld fans and cannot wait until the convention for the chance to talk to people who understand why you should avoid the Luggage, know where to find the Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons and who speaks in CAPITAL LETTERS?
Well, there are Discworld fan groups scattered across the country who meet regularly to chat, answer simple (or not so simple) Discworld quizzes and maybe play Discworld board games.
1 Some of them nice!
2 By then we may all be wearing silver foil jumpsuits and travelling in flying carriages.
3 Yes - you got us - it's a pun on "The Last Continent", which in turn was Terry's pun on "The Lost Continent" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
4 Keith and Roderick are of course the hippos from the Ankh-Morpork coat of arms - who you will have met in "Feet of Clay".
