Quest for the Lost Convention?

Welcome To Ankh-Morpork

Memorandum

From: Lord Vetinari, The Oblong Office, Ankh-Morpork

Subject: The Australian Discworld Convention: The Lost Con, 3rd July 2021

The Lost Con: please can I dress up?1

Raiders of the Lost Con

The Lost Con will be a virtual event, running on Saturday 3rd July. The provisional times are from 4pm until midnight, Sydney time (AEST)2.

It is open (and free) to all attending and supporting members of Nullus Anxietas 7a, our 2022 convention. It's a chance for us all to catch up, meet a few guests and enjoy a few Terry Pratchett and Discworld related events. If you don't have a supporting membership yet, you can buy one in our shop.

It may be virtual, but The Lost Con is still a chance to show off that Discworld costume that you were going to wear in Sydney this year.3 Perhaps your favourite character? Or a chance to speak in CAPITAL LETTERS! A bit of mime?4

We are running a Virtual Maskerade (costume/prop competition).

If you have a costume or prop that you've made (or someone made it for you, or you bought it... it doesn't matter!), you can enter the virtual Maskerade by submitting a photo or video.

So who will be there?

Guest #2 is author Karen J Carlisle

We will be interviewing Karen J Carlisle, writer and illustrator of steampunk, Victorian mysteries and fantasy. She was short-listed in Australian Literature Review's 2013 Murder/Mystery Short Story Competition.

She is currently writing the second book in her cozy fantasy mystery series, set in Adelaide. Her short stories have featured in the 2016 Adelaide Fringe exhibition, 'A Trail of Tales', 'Where's Holmes?' and 'Deadsteam' anthologies.

What's more, she is a huge Terry Pratchett fan. Her favourite character is DEATH5.

Don't forget your T-Shirts!

So you can feel like you are at the convention from the comfort of your own home, we have designed a special Lost Con T-shirt. They are available in a range of sizes in mens and ladies styles. These are on very limited offer6, and you need to move fast. We mean really fast. Since the last newsletters, they have been flying off the virtual shelf7.

In order to get the shirt to you in time for the Lost Con, you need to place your order by 31st May. That way we can get the shirts printed and in the post, so you can proudly wear it during our convention.

You can order directly from our website here.

How do I find out more?

Just keep reading our newsletters. We will be sending them frequently from now, with more details on guests and events. A special newsletter will be sent to ticket holders just before July 3rd with the links you'll need to participate. Previous newsletters can be found on our website.

And, we have lots of details on our website, and answers to all those questions that you frequently ask7a. More answers will be added in the lead-up to the event.

If you are on Facebook, then we encourage you to join our Lost Con Discussion Group to chat with other people who will be virtually at The Lost Con!

Footnotes:

1Well, since you ask so nicely, of course you can!

2If you are in the UK, that's from first breakfast until afternoon tea, so still quite civilised.

3Unless the pet swamp dragon has sicked up something unspeakable on your costume. Bless their little pyrotechnic stomachs!

4We have a virtual scorpion pit ready!

5Maybe she expects to meet him some day!

6So limited that not even CMOT Dibbler can get you one!

7Virtual shelf is in Narrandera - because it just is. It's a surprise!

7aI am assured by those bright young wizards at the Unseen University that you will ask these questions.
